Knot & Matt Removal

Removal of knots and matts is critical for your cat to enjoy a healthy, comfortable life.  We pride ourselves on taking great care of your cat, aiming to provide a painless, stress-free groom. We never use scissors to remove any knots or matts and will either groom (ensuring no pulling directly on the delicate skin), or clip away any matting or pelting.

Removing unwanted knots and matts

Knots and matting prevent your cat from enjoying freedom of movement, by pulling on the skin whilst they move.  This may change your cat's personality from their usual, happy self, through the discomfort making them irritable and less friendly. Once knots and matts are removed, we are often told that the cat has returned to their normal self, becoming a happy member of the family once more.
 
Matted coats form through the formation of knots, which then attach to other knots, creating a mass of knots.  If matting is left untended, they tighten and become very close to the skin - this is called pelting and is extremely uncomfortable for your cat. The only way to remove pelting is to clip the coat away as it is similar to the fleece of a sheep at this point.
 
It can be extremely dangerous to attempt to cut through matting on your cat, as we have to clip from underneath the area to ensure safe removal and the amount of remaining hair will depend on how close and tight the matting is to the skin.
