There’s a word for people like us – and we wear it with pride. Ailurophilia.
It sounds fancy (and let’s be honest, a little dramatic), but all it really means is: a deep love of cats. If you’ve ever shared your pillow with a purring fluffball, rearranged your day around mealtimes or naps, or spent an entire afternoon Googling “why does my cat sit on my laptop?” – you’re one of us.
At Feline Groovy, our own journey into professional grooming began with ailurophilia. It wasn’t a career plan—it was a cat love story. We’d always adored animals, but it was our two Maine Coons, Archie and Cleo, who really taught us what commitment to cat care looks like. When they became matted and flea-infested while we were away, we knew we had to learn more – do more. That’s when the seed was planted.
Since then, our love for cats has grown into a business that helps other ailurophiles care for their companions. And we’ve discovered along the way that ailurophilia is more than just affection – it’s a way of life.
Here’s how you know you’re a certified ailurophile:
You talk to your cat more than most humans.
You have multiple nicknames for your cat, and none of them are their actual name.
You can’t sit down without checking behind you first.
Your camera roll is 90% cat content.
You’re reading this blog post (yep, that seals it).
We started The Feline Files because we knew there were others out there just like us – cat lovers who want to do the best for their feline family, but sometimes need a little guidance (or solidarity!).
So whether you’re a long-time ailurophile or just beginning your feline obsession – welcome. You’re in very good company.
