Even the most glamorous cats have their off days. One moment your feline looks like a walking cloud of elegance, and the next they resemble a crumpled feather duster. Bad hair days happen – even to cats.
Here’s why, and how to help them bounce back to their best.
What causes a kitty bad hair day?
Shedding season: As seasons change, your cat may start dropping fluff like confetti.
Missed grooming sessions: Life gets busy, and sometimes the brush doesn’t come out often enough.
Health issues: A greasy, matted, or dull coat could point to an underlying issue.
Stress or discomfort: Cats under stress might overgroom or stop grooming altogether.
How to help:
Brush it out. Start with a soft slicker brush or wide-toothed comb. Be gentle – if you hit resistance, don’t force it.
Try a conditioning spray. These help loosen minor tangles and give the coat a lovely, fresh feel.
Give them space. If your cat’s not in the mood, respect that. Little and often works best.
Schedule a groom out. If mats are forming or the coat feels greasy, a professional groom out and dry bath can work wonders.
Check their wellbeing. Dull fur or unusual grooming behaviour? Pop to the vet just to be sure.
